This film gives SOME, not all, information on what a fire department does, well worth watching. *Note: If any are interested the Los Angeles Fire Department Museum is located on Cahuenga Blvd jus south of Sunset Boulevard, housed in OLD FIRE STATION 27. Open on Saturdays about 9 or 10 am.

Where's Stilman when you need him?
Big fires! Little Fires! Everybodys reporting a fire! cries the narrator (honestly) at the beginning of this 30 minute expose of the LAFD. And when I say expose I mean expose, as this tells some rather interesting things that I am not too sure whether we were supposed to know about. Like the factor of the number of fire departments is directly connected to how much the property value is in the neighborhood. Like wow. This whole thing is fun, fun fun actually, because the film tells of the many little menial jobs that get to ride on the big big fire truck (and watch it take corners!). We see fire swampers go in and start trying to salvage furniture by adding sawdust (to stop water) (but isnt sawdust, uh, flammable?) and trying to make sure not everything gets burned to a crisp. I have no idea if such a position is used anymore. As a matter of fact, half of this sort of looks obsolete because of new technology probably, but not to worry, as it looks like the FD looked like they knew exactly what they were doing.

worthwhile viewing
.I doubt whether this film needs much modernising/ Although made 55 years ago, I believe that its story is applicable to many parts of today,s world. In view of recent government funding cut backs ( a world wide problem )concerned citiaens could profitably spend 31 minutes( Parts 1 & 2)viewing this film and deciding whether their fire dept is efficient
